Why Waiver Forms Matter
Filling out a waiver may not be the most exciting part of a NeighborLink project, but it is one of the most important.
Before any work begins, every project should have a signed liability waiver from the neighbor receiving assistance. It only takes a few moments to complete, but it provides important clarity and protection for everyone involved.
Finding the Waiver
If a waiver has not yet been signed, you'll see a red banner near the top of the project page that says:
This neighbor has not yet signed a liability waiver. When you're on-site, click "Sign Waiver" and have the neighbor e-sign prior to beginning any work. You can also upload a signed PDF if you have a scanned paper copy. Thank you!
Beneath that message is the Sign/Upload Waiver button.
When you arrive at the project, simply click the button, have the neighbor review and electronically sign the waiver, and you're ready to begin. If you've already collected a paper copy, you can upload a scanned PDF instead.
Why It's Important
The waiver serves several important purposes.
First, it confirms that the neighbor has requested or approved the work being completed. By signing the waiver, they acknowledge that NeighborLink volunteers have permission to be on their property and perform the agreed-upon project.
This protects everyone by ensuring there is a clear understanding before work begins.

While projects are completed with care, accidents can happen.
The waiver helps establish clear expectations and provides legal protection for both the homeowner and those serving through NeighborLink if an unexpected incident occurs during the project.
Hopefully, you'll never need that protection.
But having it in place before work begins is an important part of serving responsibly.

The waiver is more than a legal document. It's a way to ensure everyone is on the same page before a project begins. Neighbors understand what work is being performed, volunteers know they have permission to be there, and everyone can move forward with confidence.
Taking a few moments to complete the waiver helps create a safe, respectful, and trustworthy experience for everyone involved.
A Note for Organizations
NeighborLink waivers are signed by the individual homeowner or resident receiving assistance.
If your church, business, nonprofit, or volunteer organization is participating in a project, it's wise to follow your own organization's policies regarding waivers, liability, and insurance for your volunteers.
NeighborLink's waiver does not replace any internal requirements your organization may have.
