How to Find a Project Near You

Getting started as a NeighborLink volunteer is simple.

If you're ready to help, the platform makes it easy to find real needs near you.

Start with "I Can Help"

From the NeighborLink landing page, click the green "I Can Help" button.

This will guide you through a short registration process to get set up as a volunteer.

As part of this process, you'll complete a required background check form. This step is important for maintaining a safe and trusted environment for everyone involved.

Background checks may take a few days to process. Once everything is complete, you'll be notified and ready to begin serving.

Explore the Map

After registering, you'll be taken to a GPS-enabled map.

The map will automatically center on your current location and display nearby project requests. Depending on how many needs are in your area, you'll see:

  • Individual icons for specific projects

  • Number clusters when multiple projects are close together

This allows you to quickly see where help is needed around you.

Learn About a Project

Click on any project marker to view more details.

Each project page will provide information about the need, including a description of the work requested and any relevant details shared by the homeowner or advocate.

Take a moment to read through the project and consider whether it's a good fit for your time, skills, and availability.

Step Forward to Help

If the project feels like a good match, click the green "Lead This Project" button.

This officially claims the project and allows you to begin connecting with the homeowner and planning next steps.

From there, you'll move into the process of communicating, scheduling, and completing the project.

A Simple Way to Get Started

Finding a project through NeighborLink is designed to be straightforward.

All you need is a willingness to help and a simple step forward.

And often, that one step is all it takes to begin making a meaningful difference in your community.
